Making Smoothies

Lately, it has been extremely hot where I live: in the high 90s!! What better way to cool off then with a nice smoothie. Smoothies make for a heathly snack, and they also taste delicious. Today, me and my sister decided to try out our own recipe and make some smoothies for breakfast. They turned out very well, and they were so easy to make. All you need is: 1 cup of strawberries, 1 cup of mango, 1 cup of milk, and 6 to 8 ice cubes. Mix the strawberries, mango, and milk for about thirty seconds. Then, add the ice cubes and mix until it is smooth. (Add sugar to taste.) Hope you guys enjoy!!

Summer 2011 Trends: Fashion

1. White
I absolutely love the color white, and I think that it definitely works well in the summer beacuse it compliments tan skin. I love wearing white dresses and white shorts with dark wash denim shorts or jeans. You will definitely catch me rocking my white this summer! (:

2. Color Blocking

Color blocking is definitely a rising trend on the runway and within celebrities. I think that the look is bold, and looks great on anyway who is fashion forward enough to pull it off. This is not a style of clothing that I would wear daily, but I am definitely planning to make a video on it.

3. Denim
I can not express how much I love this trend. Denim has been seen on the runway, but it is also perfect for an everyday outfit. I think a touch of denim can take a regular, boring outfit and jazz it up a little. Denim is perfect for anyone of any age, and it is so easy to pair with outfits.

4. Lace
Lace has been seen all over the runway this spring and summer season. I think that it is perfect for a hot summery day. Lace makes an easy pair for a simple bandeau or a swim suit. I look forward to wearing my lace as a cover-up to the beach and pool this summer. (:

5. Patterns/ Print
Lastly, prints. I think that prints are always in style, and it is perfect for any season. Animal print makes for a nice sophisticated look, whereas florals make for a nice springy look. From animal print, to floral print, to abstract print, this is the trend that I am most excited about.

Top 5 Summer Makeup Must Haves

Although I do not like to wear alot of makeup in the summer, there are a few staple items that I need in order to survive the summer.

1. a good pressed powder: This is an essential for me because my skin gets very oily during the summer, and pressed powders are the perfect product to eliminate shine. My favorite is the NYC color wheel. I have used this powder for about a year now, and it is by far my favorite. It provides coverage and eliminates shine, without making your face look too powdery.

2. cream eyeshadow: During the summer, I do not like to cake alot of loose shadows on my eyelid. I like to use cream shadows in the summer because they are very pigmented and they are simple to use because you can apply them with your fingers. Cream shadows are perfect for on-the-go makeup and you can sweep one simple color all over your lid and still look put together.
.

3. coral lipstick: Coral lipsticks are definitely in for the summer. They have been seen on celebrities and on the runway lately. I think that coral lips are great for summer because they remind me of the carefree summer feeling. Coral lips are definitely more daring than anything that I would were on a normal school day, so they are perfect for summer, while you're wearing minimal makeup otherwise.

4. bright blush: Like the coral lips, I think that bright cheeks definitely have a care-free feel. I personally love the look of contoured cheeks and bright blush, so I think that it compliments any makeup look and any summer outfit.

5. lightweight foundation: During the summer, I am careful to make sure that I do not weigh down my skin with alot of makeup. I like to give my skin a break, since I will just sweat my makeup off anyways (lol). So, if I have to wear foundation, I make sure that it is lightweight, with SPF to protect my skin from the sun. My current favorite is Covergirl's Nauture Luxe.

Don't Go Breaking My...Nails?

I've seen so many people using shatter nailpolishes lately, and it is definitely a rising trend for this summer season. There are many different high-end brands that sell these nailpolishes (ex: OPI shatter, China Glaze Crackle), but there are also many drugstore brands as well. Since the high-end brands can retail for about eight dollars a tube, I decided to try a cheaper brand that I purchased at my local beauty supply store for three dollars. It is by the brand "Kleancolor" and it is the "Crack" line. They have a large selection of color choices; I picked up the color "Blue Crackle". There are a few tricks to help achieve the look that you want. Make sure you use a base coat with your polish. If you want a color under your crackle polish, the color can be used as a base coat. The polish dries very quickly, so keep an eye on it as it crackles. Once you have the desired look, apply the top coat immediately. If you wait too long to apply the top coat, the paint will peel off. These are the tips that I found helpful when using this polish, and they definiely helped me achieved the desired shattered look. Here are some pictures of my results:
